Spilling wine on your carpet might seem like the end of the world, especially if you have a light-coloured carpet.
However, there is no need to panic because with the right technique, you can get your carpet wine-free and back to its spotless self.
Here’s how you can get wine our of your carpet.
The main element to removing wine stains completely from your carpet is to act quickly.
As soon as you see the spillage, grab a paper towel or a clean, dry dish cloth and blot the stain – the idea is to soak up the wine.
Do not start rubbing the stain, as this will make the stain much worse and spread it to unaffected areas.
Once you are confident that you have soaked up as much wine as you can, the next step is to find a cleaning solution you can apply over the stain.
You can use ready-made carpet cleaner from a shop or make your own.
To make your own cleaning solution, first grab a large bowl and pour in two cups of warm water. Then add one tablespoon of dish soap and one tablespoon of white vinegar and then mix the solution together.
TIP – Test your cleaning solution on a hidden area of carpet before using it on the stain to make sure it doesn’t discolour the carpet.
Apply your cleaning solution over the stain using a white cloth or sponge.
Do not use a coloured cloth as this can cause the colour pigments to rub off into your carpet, causing you a different problem.
Let the solution sit for around 10 minutes (you can use this time to take a few deep breaths).
After the solution has had time to work, blot the stain again with a paper towel or a clean, dry dish cloth.
Remember to just dab the area, not rub it, as you don’t want to spread the wine.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are happy that the majority of the stain has come out.
When you have removed as much of the stain as you can, add clean, cool water to the area and then blot it with a clean, dry towel.
This will remove any leftover solution and stop the carpet from becoming too wet.
TIP – Do not using hot water or steam to clean the area, as this can set the stain in the carpet fibres.
The last step is to let the carpet dry out completely before putting any furniture over it or walking over it.
TIP – Use a fan/hairdryer to speed up the process.
The cost of flooring can be expensive, depending on the material and installation process, so make sure to consider your budget and look only for options within your price range.
We know that spilling wine – or anything – on your carpet can be irritating, but with the right tips, you can remove the stain and restore its pristine condition.
Remember to act quickly, blot the stain, apply the cleaning solution and then rinse the area. Your hard work will pay off and your carpet will be back to looking its best!
